About Beaconhouse-Newlands Islamabad
We are extremely fortunate to have a spectacular campus in Bani Gala, in the heart of the hills, with plenty of greenery and fresh air that is ideal for the school’s extensive play areas. Our sports facilities are second to none: we have indoor and outdoor swimming pools, a double basketball court with a view of the hills, double squash courts, badminton and tennis courts, a work-out centre, and fields for football, cricket, and play. A designated toddler and infant play area as well as shaded spaces with benches allow children to relax, talk, and enjoy their lunch. Our new cafeteria, currently under construction, will be for the entire school, offering both indoor and outdoor seating arrangements and nutritious and hearty meals. Our classrooms are large and bright, fitted with multimedia, and AC units, with viewing hall windows for observation and cross-ventilation. Our remastered senior library will offer multiple learning areas with state-of-the-art resources. Each programme cycle has its own dedicated building. Our school administration is ready to welcome you if you would like to get a better feel of our incredible campus.

Message from the Principal

Dr. Leeanne Wootten

Dear Parents,

What an amazing year we have had at BN Islamabad! We have welcomed more than 100 new students, many of whom are expatriates. Our newly upgraded lobbies and classrooms as well as our state-of-the-art auditorium have been home to many school events, national and international. We are now officially the only candidate school for the IBCP or Career Programme cycle in Pakistan, which makes us the only IB Campus in the country with all four IB cycles. I have always been passionate about 21st Century teaching and learning skills in the IB Continuum. Making connections across the IB Continuum to education change, evolving new career paths, economics and social norms is our daily business. Recently, I published my PhD in comparative education in Paris on how the IB Continuum contributes to excellence in teaching and learning required for these very realities of the 21st Century. I visited every IB Continuum School while living in Seoul, Korea where I completed my action research, and I continue to implement these findings, insights and visions into my daily rigour at Beaconhouse Newlands, Islamabad.

This year, we piloted MAP (Measure for Academic Progress), which is a standardised and adaptive test that measures academic progress up to four times a year. Students are assigned an RIT score, and within a standard deviation, this RIT score will ensure that you can follow your child’s academic improvement closely. We also implemented ATLAS, which is a curriculum mapping programme. With ATLAS, we can implement standards into each lesson plan, and analyse growth in our vertical and horizontal alignment with ease and precision.

We look forward to launching even more exciting and innovative initiatives and welcome you to share this journey with us.

The Learning Tower

Our facilities include the Learning Tower, our school library. Much more than a traditional library, it is a place where diverse and varied ideas, thoughts and viewpoints flourish, and where research is fostered as a lifelong learning skill. We believe that the school library is a learning hub that should provide essential support for teaching and learning in the classroom. The Learning Tower is a three-storey building designed to create an environment where students can engage in different activities that promote a love of reading and research. The Learning Tower houses over 23000+ books and reference material, besides digital resources covering a wide range of topics. The ICT suite is on the top floor and has computers for research, multimedia projectors, as well as a dedicated space for robotics. It is a resource centre for both individual and collaborative work for students and staff alike. Library lessons are utilised for issuing books to students, as well as for providing opportunities for different activities such as reading sessions, book review competitions, vocabulary and word games. In line with our mission statement, we foster international mindedness by celebrating international days and events such as International Peace Day, World Dignity Day, Mothers’ Day, and World Book Day, which enable students to be aware of international issues as well as providing learning experiences. At the Learning Tower we teach our students to respect and protect resources, develop a strong sense of community, and increase their understanding of the world in which we live. It is our most powerful learning space for creating life-long learners.
