At Newlands, as part of our extended curriculum, we offer the Co-Curricular Programme, which offers our students an exposure to a variety of skills.
The Music Club focuses on skill development, ongoing learning, the responsibility of learners as musicians, time management, and motor skills. Its activities include:
Scouting focuses on outdoor and survival skills that support young learners in their physical, spiritual, intellectual and social development. Its activities include:
In this club, budding scientists are taught about the science laboratory and its equipment, safety procedures, rules, signs, and symbols.
In this club students learn the art of self defence to help boost their confidence. Movement supports a healthy body and mind, developing physical and mental agility, and sharp reflexes.
The Bookworm Club focuses on development of personal preferences, selecting books for pleasure and information. Learners read texts at an age-appropriate level, independently, confidently, and with good understanding. They develop an interest in, and enjoyment of listening to stories. The club’s activities focus on:
The Environmental Club allows every individual to learn about themselves and their environment, with a focus on their connection to, and responsibilities towards the environment. Students analyse global environmental issues, engage in problem-solving, and take action to address challenges.
This club aims to provide learners with the knowledge and awareness about the environment and helps them create a balanced relationship between humans and the natural world. The aims and objectives of the club are:
The Math and Mind Games club has been successfully implemented in an upper primary programme and focuses on activities like individual or collaborative problem-solving, and authentic activities that situate mathematics in real-life contexts. The aim of the club is to engage learners in mathematics learning outside of regular class lessons, and to make it a fun and innovative way to learn mathematics. It includes activities such as:
The Tech and Design Club is a technology-based club that provides personal growth, leadership, and learning opportunities in technology, innovation, design, and engineering. Members apply and integrate technological concepts through hands-on activities such as:

Like a regular library, the Human Library has a book jacket and description, and a “reader” can check out “books” on a topic that he/she/they may be interested in learning more about.
STEAM is an approach to learning that incorporates Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics as access points to guide student inquiry, dialogue, and critical thinking.
In this club learners create projects, take thoughtful risks, engage in experiential learning, problem-solving techniques, embrace collaboration, and work through the creative process that will enhance their research and thinking skills. They learn to see themselves as someone who can do things they could not do before, and to treat failure as an opportunity to learn. Their lessons and experiences will live on long after the projects are gone. A few of the projects learners work on in this club are:
